Rank the Films: Indiana Jones

As any regular reader of this blog will know, lists are pretty darn nifty. I have a profound appreciation for straight-up lists. This is the thinking behind Rank the Films, a regular feature that pulls apart the pros and cons of a series of films, ranking them in order of bad to good.

Grab your bullwhip, throw on that fedora and pack a dusting brush - on the slate this month is the Indiana Jones series, from 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark to 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

So, without further ado, let's dive straight in - this is the four Indy films ranked worst to best. Did your favourite reach the top? Read on...

Film Review: Frozen Fever

Frozen Fever is a 7-minute animated short from Disney Animated Studios that accompanied 2015's Cinderella adaptation. It's a brief but brilliant revisit to the world of the 2013 smash hit, Frozen that is almost worth the price of admission by itself.

Film Review: Cinderella

Cinderella is a live-action reimagining of the classic Disney fairytale. It sees Lily James don the iconic glass slippers as the titular downtrodden farm girl, Cate Blanchett as her evil stepmother and Richard Madden as the handsome prince.

Film Review: Insurgent

Insurgent is the eagerly-awaited inevitable sequel to 2014's mediocre YA adaptation, Divergent. Based on a trilogy of popular young adult novels by Veronica Roth, this latest Hunger Games wannabe sports a hot young cast and is loaded with spectacle - and, believe it or not, actually improves upon the muddled first entry.

Film Review: God Help The Girl

God Help The Girl is a British musical written and directed by Stuart Murdoch (from Scottish indie pop group Belle & Sebastian).

It stars Emily Browning as Eve, a troubled young girl with a talent for songwriting and signing who, along with her friends James (Olly Alexander) and Cassie (Hannah Murray), delve into the Glaswegian music scene over one long, dream-like summer.

Film Review: Focus

Focus is a high-stakes crime caper starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Rodrigo Santoro. It sees Smith play Nicky, a seasoned con-man who takes Jess (Robbie) under his wing to tutor her in art of hustling. Expect twists, turns and double-crosses that'll wrinkle your brain - but in a good way.

60 Second Film Reviews #17

Quick movie reviews, without the waffle. 60 Second Film Reviews is a regular feature where I compile together brief reviews of recent films I've watched at home or at the movies - and generally couldn't be arsed didn't find time to write a proper review for.

On the slate this month is Shawn Levy's comedy This Is Where I Leave You, Aussie apocalypse drama These Final Hours, drippy rom-com No Strings Attached and Colin Trevorrow's Safety Not Guaranteed.

Film Review: What We Did On Our Holiday

What We Did On Our Holiday is a quaint British comedy from Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, the creative minds behind the BBC improv sitcom, Outnumbered. It's sweet, heartfelt and the right kind of quirky - and although it might veer into unexpected territory at one point or another, the final product is something unrelentingly charming.
