Interview: Greenfield

Isolation. Prejudice. The fear of being judged by others. These are just a few of the central themes that anchor Greenfield, a new West Australian web series that strives to ground itself in real life situations, and build compelling storytelling through strong characters and relationships.

Through distancing itself from spectacle, and advocating for substance instead, this gritty and hard-hitting drama centres on James (Ethan Tomas), a moody loner who moves to the titular verdant rural town in the hope of starting afresh with his girlfriend Kelly (Marthe Snorresdotter Rovik). However, it’s soon apparent that James’ city boy lifestyle doesn’t gel with the locals, and he finds himself cast out by his peers. As tensions reach boiling point, James must do everything he can to overcome his flair for causing trouble, and ‘fit in’ just as he stands to lose everything.

I recently got the chance to catch-up with the series producer Daniel James Tenni, and director Julius Telmer to chat about what inspired their much-talked about work on Greenfield. You can check out my interview with the pair by clicking here and heading over to Hooked on Film.
