Rank the Films: Marvel Cinematic Universe

As any regular reader of this blog will know, lists are pretty darn nifty. I have a profound appreciation for straight-up lists. This is the thinking behind Rank the Films, a regular feature that pulls apart the pros and cons of a series of films, ranking them in order of bad to good.

This month, to celebrate the release of Captain America: Civil War this week, I'm revisiting all thirteen Marvel Cinematic Universe films (count 'em!) and ranking them in order from worst to best.

And yes, this list includes Civil War - I've seen it and I'm including it on my ranking. Where does it rate? What'll come out on top? Well, read on to find out...

Film Review: An

From the scent of freshly cooked pancakes, to a gentle breeze rustling through vivid pink cherry blossom, Naomi Kawase’s latest Cannes offering An is a sentimental and saccharine affair.

Mining Nostalgia at the Mouse House (VOR)

More and more Hollywood tentpoles are trading original thinking for recycled nostalgia and regurgitated concepts – and we need to asking more of the entertainment we consume to combat them.

Film Review: Eddie the Eagle

Who doesn’t love a good underdog story? Incredible feats of daring have captured our imagination countless times before, but few capture the same stirring heart and soul as Eddie the Eagle.

Quotes Corner: Marvel Edition

Quotes Corner is a regular feature that I run where I compile the wittiest, snappiest and most memorable lines (for better or worse) from a particular TV show, film or celebrity - in the past I've covered Modern Family, Community and Jennifer Lawrence to name just a few.

This month, to celebrate the release of Captain America: Civil War this Thursday, I've compiled my favourite quotes, quips and one-liners from all 12 Marvel films to date. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is renowned for its fast-paced zingers from characters like Tony Stark and Peter Quill, so here are some of my faves - let me know yours in the comments below!

Rank the Films: The Hunger Games

As any regular reader of this blog will know, I think lists are pretty darn nifty. I have a profound appreciation for straight-up lists. This is the thinking behind Rank the Films, a regular feature that charts the highs and lows through a series of films, ranking them in order from worst to best.

To celebrate The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 arriving on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, I thought I'd reflect on the The Hunger Games series as a whole. From 2012's promising opener to the morbid final chapter from last November, this is the series ranked from worst to best - question is, where does your favourite rest on my list? Give it a read and let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below!

Disney's mission to remake every animated film in their back catalogue continues with Jon Faverau's re-imagining of The Jungle Book; but does the film deliver enough to make the revisit worthwhile?

Casting Call: Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel casting

Captain Marvel is a key component of Marvel's third wave of blockbuster films; except, one rather large question hangs over the film - who exactly is going to play her?

Truth, Justice and the New American Way (VOR)

Captain America and Superman are two very similar characters in an ideological sense; so why is it that Marvel can get the former so right whilst DC have gotten the latter so horrendously wrong?

Introducing Marvel Month 2016

With Captain America: Civil War hitting cinemas in just a matter of weeks, I've decided to dedicate a series of posts throughout the month of April to all things Marvel.

From their highly-successful series of interconnected films to their darker Netflix series of shows, April is once again playing host to a celebration of Marvel's fantastic films, TV shows and characters.

I'll have a review for the latest season of Daredevil as well as speculation on the future of their Phase 3 slate of films and a range of other articles also. Oh, and a bumper review for Captain America: Civil War upon its release of course.

So keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks for all things Marvel during Marvel Month 2016! Enjoy!
